OUR MISSION

The Mission of The Vilcabamba Community Kitchen (VCK) is to identify single moms and families in Vilcabamba city and  rural areas around Vilcabamba who live at or below poverty level. We will serve this mission by  providing food and household supplies and by working to address other challenges these families face. This program can be expanded as donations from the community allow.

VCK is partnered with the city of Vilcabamba and together we presently seek a space in Vilcabamba to open a physical Soup Kitchen.

About Bob Higgins - Director

Prior to moving to Ecuador in 2012, Robert served as clinical supervisor at Child and Family Services in New Hampshire. His main area of interest was working with poverty and homelessness. He was the in-house clinician at the Haven Homeless Shelter and WISE battered women's shelter both in Vermont.

.

Upon arriving in Cuenca Robert created and ran The Cuenca Soup Kitchen which served 1,500 meals a month to displaced Venezuelan refugees and local Ecuadorians living at, or below, the poverty level.

Robert is currently working in rural areas of Vilcabamba supporting single mothers and families with young children who are living in poverty.

“Overcoming poverty is not a task of charity, it is an act of justice.”
